No matter where you consider moving in Atlanta, Cobb County always comes up in the conversation. Marietta, Smyrna, or Kennesaw offers the perfect compromise for those that want to move to a suburban area with all the benefits of a major metropolitan area but without the "big city" hassles. It’s just far enough for an easy commute but still close enough to enjoy all that Atlanta has to offer. Cobb County offers a great quality of life with an ideal combination of the new and the old.

So just where is Cobb County?

Cobb County lies to the immediate northwest of Atlanta and offers easy access to the several of the major arteries of the metro Atlanta area – Interstate 285 (the 60-mile-long “Perimeter” that encircles Atlanta), and Interstate 75. These are major commuter lanes and no matter where you move in Cobb County, you’ll be able to limit the amount of time you have to spend in traffic. The beautiful thing about moving “outside the Perimeter” to Cobb County is that you can take advantage of a much more suburban feel. Everything you need is easy to find but without the higher costs of living that are often associated with moving to Atlanta. With Dobbins Air Force Base and Lockheed Martin’s facilities located to the immediate southwest of Marietta, they help to balance both the costs of living as well as rental prices in the area.

Shopping
Marietta, Smyrna, and Kennesaw have plenty of fantastic places to shop. Home to two of the nicest malls in the metro area, Cumberland and The Galleria and, of course, plenty of "Mom and Pop" shops, your shopping addiction will never have to do without.

Nightlife

When you move to Atlanta, the nightlife in Midtown and Buckhead gets all the publicity, but Cobb County has an abundance of nightlife for the young, hip, social-loving crowd to enjoy. Food, fun, and a relaxing place to unwind can all be found locally without ever leaving your own backyard.

How could our list be complete without including a speakeasy?! Combining the look and feel of a Prohibition-era bar with modern foods and great drinks, the atmosphere is distinctive and unique .

A Traditional British-style pub that has been a Marietta staple for 7 years, The Rose and Crown joins great food and a huge bar with an atmosphere that can be savored – no matter what you’re in the mood for.

No list of great bars is complete without an unpretentious “dive” bar. The Greek food is amazing and the structure- a farmhouse that dates back to the 1860s- is amongst the oldest in Marietta. From live music to mouth watering gyros, this is a locals favorite!

What makes moving to Marietta so great is that there are plenty of “corporate” restaurants and sports bars to enjoy, but in Smyrna and Kennesaw, you can still find the those hidden gems that make nightlife fun. Add in plenty of younger revelers and there is plenty of nightlife in Cobb. A short ride down Interstate 75 gives you easy access to professional sports teams like the Braves, the Falcons, and the Hawks or premium concert venues like Phillips Arena and Chastain Amphitheater. If the performing arts are your thing, there’s even more good news – the Cobb Energy Arena features all kinds of live shows and you never even have to leave town!

Schools

Cobb County has its own public school district and as with so many county systems, the quality of the school is based on the individual administrators. Nonetheless, the public schools of Kennesaw, Marietta, and Smyrna all rank well against other districts in the Atlanta area – a big consideration if you are moving to Atlanta with school-age kids!

Colleges and universities in the immediate area include Kennesaw State University, Life University, and Chattahoochee Tech. If higher education is your reason for moving to Cobb County, the nicest part of living here is that all the great schools in the Atlanta area are “right down the street” – Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Spelman, and Emory.

When you decide to move to Cobb County, where should you start your search for the perfect place? Apartments, condos, and rental homes can run the gamut from ultra-luxurious to just plain rundown.
